Towards a Hydrogen Economy

Hydrogen (under the form of hydrogen or hydrogen-derived products such as ammonia or methanol) is viewed by many as one way to use a low carbon energy in heavy transport or heavy industrial sectors. Export of Blue Hydrogen, obtained by reforming of natural gas associated with CCUS, provides a way for natural gas producers to cope with future carbon barriers of importing countries and address needs for low carbon energy. Green Hydrogen, generated from renewable power (solar or wind), is of high interest for countries with abundant and regular wind/solar energy.

While most analysts agree on the considerable development of H2-based economy in the decades to come, there are many uncertainties as to the speed of the development of H2 markets. It is generally believed that the coming decade will be crucially important to create an H2 industry, green and blue, create markets, reduce costs, scale up production capabilities and create distribution facilities.

Beicip-Franlab advices its clients on the elaboration of rigorous road maps for H2 development, both Blue and Green.

In addition, Beicip-Franlab has developed a unique technology and workflow to appraise the potential of natural hydrogen (also called white hydrogen) for a basin or a permit. This workflow takes benefits from our experience in Oil ang gas resources assessment by using exploration suite TemisFlow for natural hydrogen generation.

Our economists, market analysts, contracts specialists provide expertise and assistance in the following domains:

  • Elaboration of consistent H2 road maps for authorities and decision makers.

  • Analysis of competitive advantages of potential H2 exporters on various regional markets.

  • Assistance to elaborate contracts and regulation framework.

  • Assistance in acreage ranking and promotion.

  • Assessment of natural hydrogen potential

  • Our added value comes from the holistic expertise (technical, economic, commercial, contractual) of the IFP Group, with actual H2 road map experience and H2 market analysis experience, and from the advanced tools developed for market modeling and elaboration of optimal technical-economic scenarios.
