Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy (whether from shallow or intermediate depth aquifers or from deep aquifers) provides a way to generate heat or electricity with a low carbon fingerprint. It is viewed as an excellent low-carbon solution when adequate technical and economic conditions are met.
Development of geothermal energy requires a careful evaluation of optimal sites offering a high-quality resource (high thermal gradient, adequate reservoir properties, adequate safety and geomechanical behaviour).
While our mother company IFP Energy Nouvelles is involved in several research aspects of geothermal energy, Beicip-Franlab has a long experience bringing its technical assistance to geothermal operators.
Our added value comes from our multiannual and multidisciplinary experience, from our advanced numerical simulation tools and from the IFP Group laboratory facilities.
-
Selection of optimal geothermal resource (thermal regime, reservoir characteristics, flow properties, economics).
-
Evaluation and optimization of geothermal wells, based on rigorous thermal-hydrodynamic coupled simulation using IFP Group numerical simulation tools.
-
Geomechanical characterization of reservoir and cap rock, and HSE evaluation.
-
Operational and economic optimization (well design, drilling, completion, injectivity-productivity).
-
Valorization of hot produced fluids at fields to generate low carbon electricity, technical-economic feasibility.
